Spiritual Leaders

Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil al-Haqqani al-Naqshbandi (1922–2014) was one of the most influential spiritual masters of the modern era and the 40th Grand Shaykh of the Naqshbandi Haqqani Sufi Order. Born in Larnaca, Cyprus, and known affectionately across the world as Sultan al-Awliya (King of Saints), he dedicated his life to reviving the Sunnah, spreading Divine love, and guiding hearts toward remembrance of Allah through mercy, wisdom, humility, and spiritual refinement.

His lineage traces back to two of the great luminaries of Islamic spirituality — Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani through his paternal line and Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi through his maternal lineage. After years of study under leading scholars and saints of Sham, he became the foremost khalifah of Sultan al-Awliya Mawlana Shaykh Abdullah al-Daghestani. Through extraordinary spiritual presence, simplicity, compassion, humor, and profound wisdom, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim carried the Naqshbandi tradition from East to West, inspiring millions across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

His teachings emphasized love, humility, adab, service, remembrance of Allah, and purification of the heart. Nukhbat Nuhla al-Kiram describes him as “the reviver of the Sunnah,” “supporter of the religion,” and “the most famous caller to spirituality in the West in the modern age.”

Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani (1945–2024) was an internationally renowned Sunni Muslim scholar, spiritual guide, author, and one of the foremost representatives of the Naqshbandi Haqqani Sufi tradition in the modern world. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, into a distinguished family of scholars and descendants of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, he devoted his life to preserving and transmitting the teachings of traditional Islam, spirituality, compassion, and inner purification.

From a young age, he accompanied the great saints of the Naqshbandi path, including Sultan al-Awliya Mawlana Shaykh Abdullah al-Daghestani and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani, eventually becoming the designated and true successor entrusted with carrying their teachings and spiritual legacy. At the instruction of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, he later established and expanded centers of Islamic spirituality, education, interfaith dialogue, and community service throughout North America and beyond.

Through his teachings, gatherings, and spiritual outreach across North America, Mawlana Shaykh Hisham played a pivotal role in reviving traditional expressions of love for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ — including Mawlid gatherings, circles of remembrance, sacred knowledge, and devotional spirituality — for countless communities throughout the West. He became one of the most recognized voices advocating for mercy-centered, heart-based traditional Islam in the modern era.

A prolific author and lecturer, Mawlana Shaykh Hisham wrote extensively on Islamic spirituality, prophetic ethics, healing, remembrance, and peacebuilding, while advocating for moderation, mercy, and unity in an increasingly fractured world. Recognized globally for his contributions, he was named among The 500 Most Influential Muslims internationally.

Nukhbat Nuhla al-Kiram describes him as the “true successor” of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and “the final bearer of their spiritual secrets upon the earth,” noting his 57 years of companionship and service alongside his beloved shaykh.
